Versatile linen changes can drastically update the look and feel of a room. Given the size of a king or queen sized bed, customized bedlinens are often selected as the focal point in a room, and so a seasonal linen change can immediately refresh the look of a room.
At Elspeth Interiors, my design philosophy is to “bring the outside in.” My design style is inspired by natural fibres such as cotton, linen, wool, and silk, luxurious textiles with endearing qualities that provide the ultimate in comfort and aesthetic appeal. By selecting fabric patterns such as stripes, paisleys, or botanic prints to co-ordinate with window coverings, linen can “bring the outside in,” marrying interior and exterior spaces together—particularly if the room has a picture window or looks out over water, a garden, or green space.
Linens and accessories are versatile and can make or break a space. My clients have seen linens used in unique ways such as:
- Place mats and table napkins made from fabric remnants
- Covered and lined baskets or magazine holders in bathrooms
- Accent trims and banding applied on bathroom or powder room towels to co-ordinate with room décor or wallpaper
- Co-ordinating with wallpapers and fabrics on walls and window coverings
"I love nothing more than to bring in vivid splashes of colour, I feel they breathe life into the space."
